Riot Games has announced plans to rework League of Legends' First Blood Feats of Strength system just days after its release, acknowledging issues with its implementation.

The new Noxus-themed season introduced Feats of Strength, which offers unique upgrades to Triumphant boots through three main objectives:

  • First Blood
  • First turret takedown
  • First to slay three epic monster camps

League lead designer Matt "Phroxzon" Leung-Harrison explained that while the overall system's impact is reasonable, the First Blood requirement is "causing too much friction for the satisfaction & clarity of gaining it." The main issues include:

  • Arbitrary nature of First Blood
  • Creates coin-flip scenarios
  • Forces defensive early-game play
  • Disadvantages certain team compositions

Unlike First Blood, the other objectives (turret takedown and epic monster camps) provide more strategic depth and comeback opportunities due to their time-based nature and multiple resistances.

Changes to the First Blood requirement are expected in either patch 15.2 or 15.3, with Riot planning to replace it with an alternative objective that provides both teams equal opportunities to earn Feats of Strength benefits.

"We messed up here and it should have been changed pre-release, but we're going to own that mistake, learn from it and do better for next time," stated Phroxzon, acknowledging the need for improvement in the system's design.
