League of Legends players are expressing frustration over Riot Games' recent changes to the honor rewards system, which significantly reduces incentives for positive behavior in the game.

With Patch 25.04, Riot is replacing the traditional honor capsules and orbs with battle pass XP. After Patch 25.06, existing honor tokens will be converted to 1,050 Orange Essence, eliminating the previous system where players could access rare skins and cosmetics through the honor store.

The original system rewarded positive behavior with:

  • Honor capsules and orbs containing skins and icons
  • Special honor store access at level 5
  • Exclusive cosmetic rewards for maintaining good conduct

Players criticize these changes because:

  • No meaningful rewards for maintaining positive behavior
  • Battle pass XP is considered an inadequate replacement
  • Punishment system remains while positive reinforcement is removed
  • Honor level 2 restrictions on all-chat still apply

The community argues that while being nice shouldn't require incentives, the removal of positive reinforcement could lead to increased toxicity. Players point out that Riot continues to focus on punishing negative behavior while eliminating rewards for positive contributions to the game environment.

This change follows a pattern of recent controversial decisions by Riot, including the removal of free rewards and the introduction of premium skins costing over $100, leading players to question the company's priorities regarding community behavior and monetization.
