T1 and Former Teammates Rally Behind Rekkles Following Diva Accusations
Former teammates and organizations have rallied to defend League of Legends pro player Carl Martin Erik "Rekkles" Larsson against recent allegations made by Duncan "Thorin" Shields in a two-hour exposé video.
T1's CEO Joe Marsh provided a strong defense of Rekkles, describing him as humble, dedicated, and "part of the family." During his time with T1, Rekkles demonstrated exceptional self-awareness and fully embraced the challenges of competing in a foreign country.
"I can't speak to Martin as an 18-year-old, but as a 28-year-old, he was a fantastic person and teammate," Marsh stated. "He will always have a home in Korea with T1—Martin is family."
Former Fnatic teammates Bwipo and Broxah also came to Rekkles' defense:
- Bwipo acknowledged Rekkles' humanity and described him as "one of the most genuine, kind, and upstanding people" he's worked with
- Broxah, who claims to know Rekkles better than anyone in the industry, emphasized that while not perfect, Rekkles "always gave it his all"
In response, Thorin defended his reporting, stating:
- His sources were people directly involved with Rekkles
- Information was gathered within the last 18 months
- Multiple sources were cross-referenced using journalistic methods
- Many sources felt unable to speak out previously due to fears of backlash
The situation has created a divide in the esports community, with some questioning Thorin's motives while others point to his credible track record in esports journalism. While former teammates paint Rekkles as dedicated and kind, Thorin maintains that his sources' accounts are honest and well-supported.
