League of Legends' champion bounty system is facing criticism due to apparent inconsistencies in how bounties are calculated and assigned during matches. A recent LEC Winter Split playoffs match between Karmine Corp and Vitality highlighted these issues.

The key problems with the current bounty system:

  • Champions receive bounties despite their team being at a significant disadvantage
  • K'Sante had a 153g bounty while his team was down 4k gold, two turrets, and six void grubs
  • Enemy champions with better performance (kills, no deaths) had no bounties
  • The system appears to be working contrary to its intended comeback mechanic

System Evolution:

  • Original system: Bounties awarded after 3+ kills
  • 2018 update: Added minion and jungle monster gold to calculations
  • Patch 14.21: Changed to total gold earned/given away based system

Riot's Response: Gameplay designer David "Phreak" Turley acknowledged the issue:

  • Confirmed displayed values were incorrect
  • Noted bounty deprecation should have affected K'Sante
  • Promised to investigate the fundamental issue

While some players suggest it's a spectator mode visual bug, others report experiencing similar issues in their matches. Riot is currently investigating the problem to ensure the bounty system properly serves its intended purpose as a comeback mechanic.
