Rengar is a ferocious Vastayan trophy hunter from the Kiilash tribe of Shurima who lives for the thrill of tracking and killing dangerous creatures. Born as the runt to his tribe's chieftain Ponjaf, he was initially rejected and left to survive on his own.

After being mentored by the legendary human hunter Markon, Rengar spent years honing his hunting skills and collecting trophies from dangerous prey. When he returned to his tribe, his father challenged him to hunt the void creature Kha'Zix. During this hunt, Rengar lost his eye to Kha'Zix but gained valuable insight about his cowardly father, whom he then defeated to become the new chieftain.
